Restarting and Updating your Computer

start, restart, shutdown.jpg

WHY RESTART?

  • Is your computer slow? Are you having issues syncing? Chances are you haven't restarted your computer in a while. Restarting and shutting down are not the same thing; restarting resets your computer and doing this once a week can keep it working properly

  • To restart:

    • click the Windows icon in the lower left corner of your computer. Select the power icon and choose restart.

INSTALLING UPDATES

  • If you computer has updates that need to be installed it can slow down all of your applications including OneNote.

  • To check to see if you need updates click on Software Center (this should be one of the "squares" in the menu on your desktop. Next to "install" you will see a number indicating how many programs need updating. You will likely need to restart your computer when the updates have finished installing. *NOTE- The Software Center is currently unavailable away from school wifi. We're working on it!

COMPUTER FROZEN?

  • If you've tried restarting and installing updates and nothing seems to work, you can do a hard shut down. HOLD the power button on the side of the computer for 60 seconds and release. If your screen doesn't come to life push the power button once to turn it back on.
